Trivia Crack and the Mediterranean Bar

My darling Tatum turns three in three days.  We have yet to plan her party because winter weather [round two] looks to be heading our way this weekend.  Most likely we’ll have a small celebration at the house and a larger soiree after the fact.  Maybe we’ll even combine her festivities with brother’s if he’ll allow it.  Doubtful, but worth a try.

Bonus points for Seymour lurking in the background.

In the days leading up to her birthday I cannot help but reflect on where I was three years ago during the final week of my pregnancy.  Unbeknownst to everyone except Maris and my parents I secretly flew to Tennessee, where I was literally in hiding at Danielle’s house in Southaven.  Chaos ensued as I scrambled around trying to find a way to have a scheduled C-section without insurance in a state where I was technically no longer a resident.  The uncertainty of her delivery combined with the fear of being ‘discovered’ was almost unbearable.  How any of us escaped from that nightmare serves as a testament to the strength of our family and the incredible people who love us.  It blows my mind to think that in a few months Tatum will be the age Adam was when we made that ill-fated, life altering journey to California.  Sometimes it feels like it was all a bad dream….

Trivia Crack.  Not trivia fun, trivia wheel, or trivia challenge but trivia crack.  Sure enough people fiend for it, myself included.  Spinning the multicolored wheel to answer questions in six categories [sports, art, history, music, science, entertainment, and geography] consumes my life.  I can’t stop.  I won’t stop.  Just three correct answers stand between me and a coveted character.  Accumulate six characters and win.  Rivaling Candy Crush in terms of addiction factor, this game has now eclipsed my Words With Friends obsession.  Oh and P.S.– stealing a character from somebody else is a major no bueno.  Don’t cheat.  Earn it with your blood, sweat, and tears of your intellect.

Unwinding after a busy day on the job

Unwinding after a busy day on the job

Despite battling the upper respiratory infection from hell I managed to survive my first week of work.  The first major sign of trouble presented itself Wednesday morning [day three on the job] when I woke up with laryngitis.  Did I mention I work exclusively over the telephone?  Let’s just say that was an experience I won’t soon forget.  Because I’ve been sick the vast majority of the time I feel like I haven’t been able to perform at peak capacity– but I’m working hard and trying my best– learning and improving daily.

My job comes with a unique set of challenges.  Working the phone [as opposed to face to face interaction] keeps me on my toes.  I’m struggling slightly because I’m not where I want to be in terms of sales….yet I can easily identify the areas where I need improvement.  Analyzing my weaker points allows me to formulate a game plan for conquering them.  Practice makes perfect.  Having a desk directly across from Birdie helps too.

Probably one of the best things to ever happen to me

Probably one of the best things to ever happen to me.

One of the best kept culinary secrets in Memphis is the Mediterranean Bar at Kroger.  As if our local grocery store wasn’t glorious enough with its cheese samples!  Conveniently located next to the cheese section, these delectable offerings just beg to come home with me.  Olives, cheeses, artichoke hearts, dolmas, and roasted sun dried tomatoes [not to be confused with the regular roasted tomatoes] make me weak in the knees.  I could subsist solely on those damn tomatoes.  My mouth waters just thinking about it.

With infinite love, gratitude, and respect,

Sloane
